I found a really cool Web 2.0 tool for younger students that I would love to share with you! It's called Kerpoof. "Kerpoof is a site that provides a variety of creative tools for animation, drawing, and movie creation. Users can choose from a range of preset characters and environmental options, or they can create their own. The site offers drag-and-drop simplicity coupled with advanced animation and editing capabilities that, according to Lovely, open the platform up to a range of curricular applications." (www.Kerpoof.com) Kerpoof is FREE and each student can create their own account or if the teacher prefers the students can all login under one ID which is called a class ID. Once the student has created their account they have a variety of choices. The can create a story, card, movie, doodle, drawing or a picture. There are templates to choose from and then the student can add characters, sayings, change the size of their character, rotate the character, there is so much the learner can do. I actually created a picture from a template of a pool. I was having so much fun with my characters and their little bubble sayings I almost forgot I was doing school work! This is a fun and educational tool for younger students in elementary. They are learning how to manipulate their mouse to rotate objects, learning how to type, spell and be creative all while having fun. Students can create their own movies to share with the class. If you work in the elementary grade levels or even have young children of your own this is certinally a Web 2.0 tool that you will want to check out. You may even get caught up in creating your own picture like I did! www.kerpoof.com

ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to be able to learn about something that most pre-K kids can enjoy and learn from. This application looks like is a lot of fun. In reality this looks like an elementary form of programming with sprites (images) and operators. It behaves somewhat like the Scratch MIT platform http://scratch.mit.edu/ that I researched last class project. This is a great tool; you just need a computer and Internet access.
