BP5_2010012_Web2.0_T2_Kerpoof
I found a really cool Web 2.0 tool for younger students that I would love to share with you! It's called Kerpoof. "Kerpoof is a site that provides a variety of creative tools for animation, drawing, and movie creation. Users can choose from a range of preset characters and environmental options, or they can create their own. The site offers drag-and-drop simplicity coupled with advanced animation and editing capabilities that, according to Lovely, open the platform up to a range of curricular applications." (www.Kerpoof.com) Kerpoof is FREE and each student can create their own account or if the teacher prefers the students can all login under one ID which is called a class ID. Once the student has created their account they have a variety of choices. The can create a story, card, movie, doodle, drawing or a picture. There are templates to choose from and then the student can add characters, sayings, change the size of their character, rotate the character, there is so much the learner can do. I actually created a picture from a template of a pool. I was having so much fun with my characters and their little bubble sayings I almost forgot I was doing school work! This is a fun and educational tool for younger students in elementary. They are learning how to manipulate their mouse to rotate objects, learning how to type, spell and be creative all while having fun. Students can create their own movies to share with the class. If you work in the elementary grade levels or even have young children of your own this is certinally a Web 2.0 tool that you will want to check out. You may even get caught up in creating your own picture like I did! www.kerpoof.com

BP4_2010012_RSS Feeds
Below are the five RSS feeds I choose to follow in addition to the other feeds I follow. The rationale behind choosing each feed is listed below as well as the name of the RSS.
This is a local news station where I live in Fort Myers, Fl. I like to follow their educational stories and by subscribing to this feed I can keep up with Educational news in my hometown. I feel that as a teacher I need to be knowledgeable about the educational issues in my town.
Education Week- This is a website dedicated to Education in Florida. Since I live in Florida I thought that following this feed would be a good idea to keep up with the educational issues in my state.
Education WhiteHouse.gov- I choose to follow this one because I think it's important for all teachers to know what is going on in regards to education at the highest level. Keeping up with politics and education is very important to me.
Educational Technology-This feed is one that's very important to me due to the nature of my Master's Degree. Technology in Education is something I would like to follow very closely to keep up with the latest and the greatest to make me the best teacher I can be!
Web 2.0 Tools and Applications-Go2web20- I really enjoy learning about new Web 2.0 tools and by following this feed I am sure to be informed on a daily basis of great Web 2.0 tools!
BP3_2010012_Web 2.0_T1-Filebox
After reviewing several of the Web 2.0 tools from http://www.go2web20.net/. I really liked the Filebox Web 2.0 tool. I can see this being a very useful tool in the classroom, mainly in grades 2nd and higher. Allowing the students to explore web 2.0 tools like this will encourage them to utilize technology for different areas of their life. At the beginning of the school year each student would be instructed to create an account (it's FREE) and instead of saving all their files, videos etc on the school desktop they would use Filebox to store all of their files. Students can use this Web 2.0 tool to store, organize and publish all of their media projects. With just a click of the mouse the students can then share these files with their classmates via email, teachers or even their family. This Web 2.0 tool is very simple to use. The user can upload multiple files at once. Once the files are uploaded, Filebox will give the user the size and share address for each file. The share address is the url the user will use to share the file. This makes sharing large files so easy! No worries abut emailing large files, just upload and share the url! Once the user has uploaded the files to the Filebox, they can easily organize their files using the Filebox File Manager. The user can then rename the files, create directories, and move files to those directories. This Web 2.0 tool is very user friendly and best of all.....it's FREE!! The url for this Web 2.0 tool is http://filebox.com/

BP1_2010011_Educational Uses for Blogs
As I searched the Internet for educational uses for blogs I was amazed at all the wonderful ideas there are for using blogs in education. There are so many uses for blogs in the classroom and not just for upper level either. Blogs can be used in Elementary, Middle, High Schools and of course College courses.
Some of the ways blogs can be used in education are as follows. As stated from the NCTE (National Center for Technology in Education) website, “From a teacher’s point of view, a blog can become a class notice board, an archive of links and documents or as a collaboration or discussion tool with his/her students. It can also be used by the students as a learning reflection tool.”
Students can use a blog to pretend they are a classroom pet and they would blog about their days in the classroom, the class as a whole could blog about what they are learning, teachers could use a blog to dictate homework assignments, a blog could also be useful to connect two classrooms in different states, there are so many more ideas out there these are just a few.
One really cool idea I found was on the New York Times Website. “Sixth-grade social studies students at Ballard County Middle School talk with Aaron Connor, a Ballard Memorial High School graduate now serving near Ghazni City, Afghanistan, with the Illinois National Guard through the use of a blog.” This is a great way to involve the students in what is happening overseas with our military.
These are just a few ideas for educational uses and blogging. Blogging can give students real world experience.
